A double World Cup-winning Springbok is reportedly considering a return to the English Premiership.
Scrumhalf Faf de Klerk’s contract with the Yokohama Canon Eagles expires at the end of the current Japan Rugby League One season in June.
The 34-year-old recently returned to pre-season training in Japan, but RugbyPass says he is weighing up his options as he approaches the final stretch of his deal.
There is talk that he could be set for a return to England where he enjoyed a highly successful spell with the Sale Sharks between 2017 and 2021.

After starting his professional career with the Lions, De Klerk made his name in the Premiership, racking up more than 103 caps for Sale and establishing himself as one of the league’s most influential scrumhalves.
His form in Manchester translated seamlessly to the international stage, where he became a key figure under Rassie Erasmus.

De Klerk was part of the Springbok team that lifted the World Cup in 2019 and 2023, and his experience continues to make him an attractive proposition for clubs seeking leadership and big-match temperament.
Besides Sale, there is also rumoured interest from other Premiership clubs in acquiring his services.
