A seasoned campaigner and back-row powerhouse for the Stormers has parted ways with the Cape outfit.

Willie Engelbrecht has returned to the Pumas, with the Lowvelders confirming the 2022 Currie Cup-winning skipper is back in Nelspruit ahead of Friday’s SA Cup clash against the Border Bulldogs.

On Monday, he posted a farewell video on Instagram, with teammates sending their best wishes. By Tuesday, the Pumas had confirmed his return on social media.

PLUS: ‘Stormers will not let him go’

Engelbrecht joined the Stormers on loan in 2021 before making the move permanent in 2022. Over three seasons, he made 57 appearances, including the 2023 Vodacom URC final.

Last week, the 32-year-old scored off the bench in a defeat to Ulster, and captained a youthful Western Province in the 2024 Currie Cup.
