Mamelodi Sundowns registered a comfortable 2-0 win over AmaZulu in a league match played at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Tuesday.

Both Peter Shalulile and Arthur Sales were on target for the champions, with the focus now on Sunday against Orlando Pirates.

As a result, the Brazilians moved to 58 points after 22 league games, meaning they are 18 points ahead of Pirates.

Second-placed Pirates could only afford a goalless draw away to Stellenbosch FC on the same night.

The draw took Jose Riveiro’s men to 40 points after 18 league games – Bucs still have four games in hand.

It was also Pirates’ first league draw of the current season. They have won 13, drawn one and lost four of their 18 games.

Sundowns, on the other hand, have won 19, drawn one and lost two of their 22 league games.

Now, with eight league games to go, Sundowns will now be targeting to smash their own record for points.

They need 15 points from the remaining matches to equal their record points of 73 after 30 games which they set last season.

The Betway Premiership title race could officially be over by Sunday, 16 March if Sundowns manage to beat Pirates at Orlando Stadium.

    Kick-off is scheduled for 15:30.
