The Tanzania Association of Tour Operators (TATO) has introduced a detailed Code of Conduct and Ethics for safari driver-guides.

As reported by African Travel & Tourism Association, the introduction of the framework is designed to elevate professionalism and encourage sustainable tourism practices.

It focuses on seven key areas, including environmental conservation, cultural sensitivity, vehicle safety and guest welfare.

By implementing these guidelines, TATO intends to bolster the growth of Tanzania’s tourism sector, particularly in iconic destinations like the Serengeti and Ngorongoro, while also ensuring a consistently high-quality experience for visitors.

The programme, which kicked off with the training of 530 driver-guides in Arusha, integrates both theoretical instruction and hands-on guidance provided by experts in tourism and education.

A comprehensive code, available in several languages and accessible through a QR code, sets forth standards for responsible tour guiding. It emphasizes proper conduct, waste reduction, wildlife conservation, as well as respectful interactions with local communities.

As the destination attracts increasing global interest due to its renowned wildlife safaris, this initiative aims to strengthen the country’s position as a leader in ethical and sustainable tourism.
