The Telkom Netball League (TNL) Power Week 2 started after more than a month of preparation after an exciting Power Week 1, at Sun City Sun Park, outside Rustenburg in the North West Province, on Friday, June 13, 2025.

The Gauteng Jaguars delivered a dominant performance against the Limpopo Baobabs, winning 76-45. Key players included Kamogelo Maseko, who energised the team, and defenders Jamie van Wyk and Jamie Williamson, who made it tough for the Baobabs to score. Suné Bernard earned Player of the Match for her pivotal role and the Jaguars’ impressive 80% shooting success.

Jaguars coach Rozanne Matthyse praised her team’s control and consistency, noting improvements from the previous week.

“We’re heading in the right direction. We’ve improved from our previous performance, and being able to play most of my lineups has been great. Kamo’s return has been impressive, especially her chemistry with Ine-Marí Venter.”

“Having solid shooters who work together is a winning combination, and we’re lucky to have them on our team.”

    Gauteng Jaguars Coach, Rozanne Matthyse

In contrast, Baobabs coach Emily Mathosa acknowledged her team’s struggles with turnovers but remained optimistic about their potential to improve.

“I’m satisfied with some of our execution, but we struggled with turnovers and didn’t gel as expected. We’ll work on those areas and come back stronger in our next match. Despite the loss, I’m proud of my players for getting on court and feeling the pressure,” Mathosa elaborated.

2024 defending champs Free State Crinums didn’t miss a beat against Zambezi Eagles in Day 1’s penultimate tie.
The Southern Stings overwhelmed the North West Flames 50-69 in their opening Power Week 2 tie.

The Free State Crinums also showcased resilience, edging out the Zambezi Eagles 59-54. Despite a strong performance from Eagles’ Nicole Muzanenhamo and Thandazile Ndlovu’s perfect shooting record, the Crinums’ cohesion and tactical adjustments were decisive.

This victory marked a significant comeback for the Crinums after a disappointing loss to the Eagles in Power Week 1, solidifying their aim to defend their title.

The Southern Stings triumphed over the North West Flames with a commanding 69-50 victory. From the beginning, the Stings displayed a well-rounded performance, particularly in their shooting circle, where Sian Moore and Lefebre Rademan excelled.

Defensively, Rochelle Rossouw made a significant impact in goal defence, teaming effectively with Entle Futshane to apply pressure that forced the Flames into numerous errors. The Stings’ adherence to their game plan and clinical finishing were key to their success.

Flames Coach Elsunet du Plessis acknowledged her players’ efforts but noted that too many mistakes led to their loss. “When you make too many mistakes, you can’t win,” she said. The team will work on improving their ball placement and timing.

“Everything just clicked. Trusting in our game plan really paid off.”

    Stings Coach, Dr Freda Kemp
