The Hollywoodbets Super League resumed with full intensity following the international break for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). All 16 teams returned to action this past weekend, with three midweek fixtures adding to a packed schedule.

TS Galaxy Queens picked up where they left off, edging Richmond United 1–0 at Merino Park in the Northern Cape. The result further deepened Richmond’s relegation woes. Their misery continued on Wednesday when they fell 1–0 to Royal AM, leaving them perilously close to the drop zone.

The weekend produced a string of closely contested draws, with Copperbelt Ladies and TUT FC; UJ and City Lads; and the University of Fort Hare and JVW FC all playing out 1–1 stalemates.

University of Pretoria were also held 1–1 by Ezemvelo FC at Tuks Stadium. Ezemvelo, back in action midweek in a KwaZulu-Natal derby, settled for a goalless draw against Durban Ladies. Despite ending their losing streak, Durban Ladies remain rooted to the bottom of the standings, still searching for their first win after 16 matches.

In one of the standout results of the round, University of the Western Cape, bolstered by the return of their national team stars, held defending champions and table-toppers Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies to a 0–0 draw.

The stalemate did little to shake Sundowns’ position at the top, as Banyana Ba Style continue to lead the standings with daylight between them and the chasing pack.

In their midweek Tshwane Derby, Sundowns Ladies bounced back with a 2–0 victory over AmaTuks.

Meanwhile, UCT continue to defy expectations in their debut top-flight campaign. The newly promoted Cape side notched up back-to-back victories, a narrow 1–0 win over Durban Ladies on Saturday, followed by a gritty 2–1 triumph over Copperbelt Ladies in midweek.

Kaylyn Jordaan and super sub Aaliya Jacobs both found the net in the latter match. UCT now sit a respectable 8th on the table, showcasing resilience and belief in their maiden HBSL season.
