Viola Davis at the 32nd SAG Awards — the Emerald Gown, the “You Are Shining!” Moment & Everything in Between

Two things from the 32nd Actors Awards are living in our heads rent free — Viola Davis in that emerald green gown, and the moment she leaned into the microphone and screamed “You are shining!” before announcing Michael B. Jordan as the winner of the outstanding performance award.

But let us start with the dress.

Viola Davis walked into the Actor Awards, formerly known as the Screen Actors Guild Awards, on 1st March 2026 in Los Angeles in a floor-length emerald green metallic satin gown. The off-shoulder sweetheart neckline sat perfectly across her chest, and the bodice came with fine pleating that fanned out in structured rays from the centre. The skirt flowed into a full pleated train, and one side extended into a long dramatic cape panel that draped from the shoulder all the way to the floor. For jewellery, she wore a statement diamond necklace with an emerald pendant at the centre, coordinating drop earrings, and a large cocktail ring on her right hand. Her hair was styled in a short voluminous bob, and she stood in front of a lush green garden backdrop that mirrored her dress so perfectly it looked planned.

She looked every bit like the EGOT winner she is.

And then she got on that stage.

Michael B. Jordan, 39, took home the outstanding performance award for his role as the twins Smoke and Stack in Ryan Coogler’s period action horror Sinners, and it was Viola Davis who got to hand it to him. She did not walk to that podium to simply read a name off a card. She arrived with her whole chest, looked out at the room, and delivered a “You are shining!” that had everyone on their feet before Jordan’s name had even fully left her mouth. It was the kind of presenter moment that people talk about long after the winner’s speech is forgotten.

This was also not the only major moment Viola Davis had recently. Just days earlier, she was honoured with the Chairman’s Award at the 57th NAACP Image Awards, where she gave a speech that left the room silent in the best possible way, closing with the words: “Our crown has already been bought and paid for. All we have to do is wear it.”

An EGOT. A Chairman’s Award. An emerald green gown. And a “You are shining!” that broke the internet. Viola Davis is simply not here to play.
