The head coach of the Moroccan women’s national football team, Jorge Vilda, stated on Friday in Salé that the selection of the squad for the final phase of the Women’s <a href="https://absafricatv.com/europe-africa-market-update-17-july/” title=”Europe & Africa Market Update 17 July”>Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON Morocco-2026) is the result of meticulous monitoring that spanned the entire season. This included tracking their performances within their respective clubs, their participation in national team training camps, as well as their output during training sessions and international matches.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmoura, Jorge Vilda explained that the technical staff took into consideration the players’ level with both their clubs and the national team, in addition to their playing time during international competitions, which serves as a true indicator to measure their performance.

He added that the fundamental criterion in choosing this squad lies in including the players most capable of helping the national team win matches. He noted that since he took charge of the national team, the technical staff has focused on building a solid core for the squad, while simultaneously giving a large number of players an opportunity over the past two and a half years.

He pointed out that the presence of a foundational core remains essential for establishing cohesion within the team, especially since the national squad only gathers during FIFA international windows. He clarified that the players need to accumulate significant playing time together before integrating new individuals who deserve a chance within the group.

The national coach also emphasized that mental preparation is a priority for the technical staff, stressing the importance of the players’ confidence in their own abilities, which reflects positively on their performance on the pitch.

Morocco will play in Group A alongside Senegal, Algeria, and Kenya.
