The debate over hyperscale data centers in Louisville escalated Tuesday when protesters interrupted Mayor Craig Greenberg’s weekly news conference, demanding the city halt plans for a development in Louisville.
The demonstrators held a sign reading, “Stop Steve Poe’s data center,” referring to the local developer behind the proposed center on Camp Ground Road.
The group could also be heard chanting, “Greenberg, Greenberg, you can’t hide. We need you to pick a side,” before being quickly escorted out of the room by security.
Following the incident, Greenberg addressed the city’s response to concerns about data centers.
Greenberg said Louisville has proposed regulationsthat would ban hyperscale data centers across the entire county.
He added that the public comment period on the proposal saw more than 3,600 public comments, showing strong public interest in the issue.
The public comment period has closed, but officials also have four public meetings to gather more community input:
- July 27: JCTC Southwest Campus
- August 5: UofL Shelbyhurst Campus
- August 6: Online meeting
- August 10: <a href="https://absafricatv.com/free-nollywood-african-movies-app-offers-offline-viewing/” title=”Free Nollywood, African movies app offers offline viewing”>African American Heritage Center
All meetings are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
