Women Religious from South Sudan and neighbouring Sudan have renewed their commitment to advancing justice, peace, and care for creation after participating in a five-day advocacy formation organized by the Association of Consecrated Women in Eastern and Central Africa (ACWECA).
In a report shared with ACI Africa on Thursday, July 23, ACWECA says 22 Catholic Sisters, including two from Sudan, took part in the Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) Advocacy Training held from July 6–10 at the Good Shepherd Peace Center in Kit in South Sudan’s Catholic Archdiocese of Juba.
The participants represented Catholic communities in Sudan and South Sudan. Of the 22 women Religious who attended, 20 serve in South Sudan, including 10 in Juba Archdiocese, two each from the Catholic Dioceses of Torit, Rumbek, Wau, and Tombura-Yambio, and one each from the Catholic Diocese of Yei and the Catholic Diocese of Malakal.
Of the two participants from Sudan, one is serving in the Catholic Archdiocese of Khartoum and currently based in Port Sudan, and another from the Catholic Diocese of El Obeid. A third Sister who had been expected from the Khartoum Archdiocese was unable to travel because of poor road conditions and insecurity, ACI Africa has been told.
