Johannesburg City Power said a spike in cable theft and vandalism costs the utility more than R311,000 in just one weekend.
It recorded 19 incidents, including cable theft, substation fires and vandalism, across the city from last Thursday to Sunday.

‘Cat’ Matlala trial: Defence expected to continue cross-examining State’s 1st witness
The defence is expected to continue cross-examining the State’s first witness in the attempted murder trial of alleged crime figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and his four co-accused.
The Johannesburg High Court on Tuesday heard evidence from Bethwell Mzamo Cele, a security guard who was on duty at the Centurion Golf Estate when the alleged shooting took place.

IDAC’s Oversight Office says Johnson among first people it will investigate
The Office of the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) Oversight Judge said that among the first people it will investigate is the head of the organisation, Andrea Johnson.
The office has confirmed that it has received more than one complaint against Johnson.

Witness K’s lawyers say no knowledge of her earlier admission to precious stones heist
Lawyers representing a Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officer accused of stealing valuable gemstones said they don’t know anything about their client’s earlier admission to the crime.
The officer, who testified as Witness K before the Madlanga Commission, was granted R5,000 bail after being arrested on Friday.

Man accused of triple murder in UK returns to court
The British man accused of killing his wife and two children is expected to return to the Johannesburg Magistrates Court as South Africa prepares his extradition proceedings to the United Kingdom (UK).
Ndodana Tshuma is wanted by British authorities in connection with the murder of his family at their home in Bedfordshire earlier this month.
