Dubai never stands still, and June is shaping up to be a month of big updates. From changes to parking and toll costs to new rules around salary payments and legal adulthood, several updates are coming into effect that residents will want on their radar.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) has introduced a new rule requiring private sector companies in the UAE to pay employee salaries on the first day of every month, starting June 1, 2026. The move aims to strengthen wage protection and improve compliance. The new rules require that the establishments submit documentation and data confirming that salary payments have been made, and failure to do so will result in the MOHRE enforcing a series of measures.
New 5% VAT to be added to Salik gates in Dubai from June
You’ll soon be paying a bit more if you’re a motorist in Dubai. There’s a new 5% VAT tax that will be added to Salik toll gat usage fees and also Salik tag activation, the company announced. The company announced on a post on X that this 5% VAT will be applied and effective from June 1, 2026. Salik added that VAT amounts collected will be remitted to the UAE’s Federal Tax Authority in accordance with applicable laws and regulations in the country.

Parkin rolls out AI-powered smart parking cameras across Dubai
Parkin, the largest provider of paid public parking facilities and services in Dubai, is installing more than 500 kerbside and pole cameras – the first of their kind in the region – across Trade Centre 1, Burj Khalifa and Al Corniche. Building on this, parking lot cameras have also been deployed in controlled parking areas, with a further 200 cameras set to be installed across the city.

Paying for parking goes digital
As part of the government’s Dubai Cashless Strategy for 2026, Parkin announced that cash payments for parking will end on June 1, 2026. You can, however, continue to make your payments with nol cards. As part of the transition towards digital payments, Parkin has encouraged customers to download and make use of the Parkin mobile application. The app is able to provide a convenient and seamless payment experience, and it will save you some dirhams by avoiding the SMS route.

VAT to be added to Salik gates in Dubai from June
