South Africa was involved in Rowing World Cup action in Lucerne, with the men’s pair reaching the A final and Olympian Paige Badenhorst reaching the women’s B Final of the single sculls.

Damian Bonhage-Koen and Christopher Baxter finished fourth in the A Final in 6:29.71. The gold medal went to Romania, followed by New Zealand and Switzerland. The pair had finished second behind New Zealand in both the heats and the semi-final.

Page Badenhorst had finished second in her heat in the women’s scull before she crossed the line in fifth in the semi-final. That steered her towards a slot in the B Final where she was just touched off by Brazilian Beatriz Tavarez.

Bonhage-Koen and Baxter were under-23 world champions in 2022 but hadn’t raced together in three years.
