The unbeaten Spar Baby Proteas continued with their 2025 Netball World Youth Cup winning streak as they thrashed Fiji 86-35 in their fourth final group match, at the Tercentury Sports Hall & Europa Sports Complex in Gibraltar, Europe, on Wednesday, 24 September 2025.

The two nations have now met for the fourth time, and South Africa are yet to taste defeat in this clash.

The Baby Proteas are yet to taste defeat at the 2025 Netball World Youth Cup, and they face Fiji for the fourth time in the final group match. Precious Mthembu’s charges would like to carry the winning streak into the quarterfinals.

“I am very pleased with the team’s performance today and getting a win against a strong opposition like Fiji. The results set us up nicely for the quarterfinal match against Cook Islands.”

Spar Baby Proteas Head Coach, Precious Mthembu

South Africa have never lost a match against Fiji in the history of the two nations.

Mthembu had made some changes to her starting seven, giving a few of the players that started the opening first three matches. As one would have expected, South Africa were the first to draw blood and immediately put Fiji on the back foot with the fast-paced game, to enjoy a 23-5 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The South Africans seemed to have slowed the game down in the second quarter after playing with speed in the first fifteen minutes, managing to contain the Fiji attack and restrict them to scoring only seven goals in reply to their own 21 netted.

Championship quarter saw the South Africans flying high with the team continuing to press Fiji as best as they could and making sure that they restricted them in their own half. At the end of the quarter, South Africa led the game 67-22.

South Africa’s noteworthy group-stage performances saw them draw Cook Islands for their quarter-final tie on Thursday evening.

The Baby Proteas cruised into the quarter-finals of the Netball World Youth Cup with an 86-35 win over Fiji. South Africa will face off against Cook Islands, a team that finished second in Pool A. The game will start at 19:00 CAT and will be streamed live on Netball Pass and NWYC YouTube channel.

South Africa’s highest finish at the Netball World Youth Cup is fifth and Mthembu and her charges have set their eyes on improving that and doing better in this year’s edition.
