The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Gauteng has condemned alleged criminal activity involving members of law enforcement in the City of Tshwane.
Two SAPS Tactical Response Team (TRT) officers and a retired Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) officer were recently arrested for hijacking a delivery truck loaded with goods valued at R900,000. Shockingly, the suspects reportedly used an official government vehicle in the crime.

“They carried out this brazen crime using a state vehicle fitted with blue lights, the very tools of law enforcement turned into instruments of organised crime,” the EFF said.
EFF Accuses Tshwane Metro Police of Criminal Infiltration
According to the EFF, criminal syndicates have infiltrated law enforcement, operating under the guise of police officers. The party linked the scandal to other serious crimes allegedly involving TMPD officers, including the high-profile case of Victor Baloyi.
“The fact that a serving TMPD officer is implicated in such heinous acts proves beyond doubt that the department has been infiltrated and corrupted at the highest level,” the EFF added.

Baloyi, believed to have ties with the criminal group Bafarasai, faces charges of extortion and drug trafficking. He is also linked to several political assassinations, including the killing of Ward 10 councillor Thabang Masemola.

Masemola was gunned down in Mamelodi on 8 July 2025, a killing that the Gauteng Portfolio Committee on Community Safety has described as part of a disturbing rise in political violence.
Committee chairperson, Dr Bandile Masuku, strongly condemned the murder. The EFF has since demanded urgent intervention from Gauteng police commissioner Tommy Mthombeni, including a forensic audit of TMPD and its weapons arsenal.

The party insisted this investigation would “expose how state assets are being turned against the very same people they are meant to protect.”
