Crime Intelligence boss Dumisani Khumalo is expected to take the stand at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Monday. His testimony comes amid explosive claims that influential business figures tied to drug cartels are manipulating both the police and the judiciary in Gauteng.

Khumalo’s appearance will span several days, as the commission digs into the extent of alleged criminal infiltration within state structures.

He remains out on bail after being arrested on fraud and corruption charges linked to the irregular appointment of an unqualified official to a senior role in Crime Intelligence.

    Inside Gauteng’s Counterintelligence Operations

Khumalo’s testimony is expected to shed light on the inner workings of Gauteng’s counterintelligence operations team, which has been central to exposing corruption within the province’s criminal justice system.

During proceedings last week, National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola revealed that Khumalo had requested 10 members of the KwaZulu-Natal Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) to bolster the Gauteng unit.

This followed reports that members of the counterintelligence team were receiving threats due to their investigations into powerful provincial figures.

Masemola emphasized the importance of the move, stating: “If the KZN political task team members didn’t come to Gauteng, we would not have the arrest of Molefe, we would not have the arrest of Cat.”

Dumisani Khumalo’s Track Record in Task Forces

Khumalo’s ties to the PKTT date back to 2018, when he was appointed project coordinator during the task team’s formation.

According to Masemola, Khumalo’s appointment was influenced by his prior achievements leading a national rhino poaching task team, which operated successfully across multiple provinces.
