Controversial North West businessman Brown Mogotsi has come out swinging against ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula, insisting that he remains a fully paid-up member of the ruling party — and daring the ANC to “charge or expel” him if they believe otherwise.

Mogotsi, who has been linked to Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and accused of using political connections to solicit money from businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala to fund ANC operations, says the party’s leadership is misleading the public.

Last week, Mbalula told reporters that Mogotsi’s membership had expired and that he was no longer part of the movement, following testimony before the Madlanga Commission alleging his involvement in organised criminal activity.

Speaking to Newzroom Afrika on Monday, Mogotsi dismissed the claims as baseless and politically motivated.

“I am a member of the ANC and I shall remain a member — a volunteer of the African National Congress. That is the status,” he said.

He accused Mbalula of acting on gossip and untested evidence, saying the Secretary-General failed to follow proper internal procedures.

“He is relying on messages presented to the commission. I thought as the SG of the oldest movement on the continent, he would apply the audi alteram partem principle — to hear my side of the story,” Mogotsi said.

The businessman labelled Mbalula’s remarks “immaterial”, insisting that only the ANC’s internal structures could make a ruling on his membership status.

‘If They Want Me Out, Let Them Charge Me’

Despite his fiery response, Mogotsi said he would not fight the ANC if it formally moved to revoke his membership.

“If the ANC decides otherwise, I will respect that. But until then, I remain a member,” he said defiantly.

The ANC has not yet issued a formal response to Mogotsi’s latest challenge.
