An associate who had previously worked at DLA Piper is suing the law firm and a former partner, alleging rape and assault.

Filing as Jane Doe, the former associate accuses “high-ranking firm partner” Brian Biggs of rape, which she says happened inside the firm’s Wilmington, Delaware, office, according to coverage on Law.com.

The complaint also alleges that Biggs, who was Doe’s professional mentor, broke into her home and began strangling her.

DLA Piper is charged with harboring a hostile work environment, quid pro quo sexual harassment and retaliation.

Biggs, who left the firm in 2024, faces an assault and battery charge.

According to a DLA spokesperson, “The firm was notified in January 2025 of a romantic relationship between a partner and an associate, which we investigated promptly. The associate made no allegations of rape to the firm.”
