MBABANE – The Government of Eswatini has hailed the successful hosting of the historic OACPS-EU 1st Africa-EU Parliamentary Assembly, describing the gathering as a major diplomatic achievement that strengthened cooperation between Africa, the Caribbean, the Pacific, and Europe.
The high-level Assembly, held at the Ezulwini Palazzo International Convention Centre from 7-14 May 2026, brought together delegates, parliamentarians, diplomats, and stakeholders from across the globe to discuss strategic partnerships, economic development, governance, youth empowerment, and cultural collaboration.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation expressed profound gratitude to all delegates, partners, dignitaries, and support staff whose contributions ensured the success of the event.
Special recognition was extended to His Majesty King Mswati III for graciously hosting the delegates and for promoting an atmosphere of unity, cooperation, and international engagement.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Senator Pholile Shakantu, commended the collective efforts that elevated Eswatini’s standing on the global diplomatic stage.
“I wish to commend His Royal Highness Prince Lindani for his dignified representation of Eswatini at the Assembly. His presence not only showcased our nation’s values but also strengthened our diplomatic ties within the international community,” said Senator Shakantu.
She also applauded Senate President Senator Pastor Lindiwe Dlamini and Speaker of the House of Assembly Hon. Jabulani Mabuza for their exceptional leadership in hosting the Assembly and creating an environment that encouraged productive dialogue and collaboration.
Senator Shakantu further praised local participants who represented Eswatini during the youth, women, and minerals segments, saying they demonstrated the country’s potential and cultural richness with distinction.
“Our local participants represented both our country and the broader region with excellence. Their contributions highlighted opportunities for deeper collaboration across multiple sectors,” she said.
The Minister also revealed that despite the postponement of the business forum focused on unlocking the potential of culture and creative industries in Africa-EU relations, the discussions held with local creatives opened doors for future collaboration.
“We collectively decided to arrange a local session aimed at exploring how the creative sector can be further developed in Eswatini. This initiative underscores our commitment to promoting cultural industries as a vital component of economic growth and international engagement,” she added.
On the international front, Senator Shakantu acknowledged the leadership of the Assembly’s co-chairs and organisers, including Europe Co-President Ms. Hilde Vautmans and Acting Secretary General Ms. Annalisa Gliubizzi, for steering the sessions successfully.
She also commended Hon. David Houinsa and OACPS Secretary General His Excellency Moussa Batraki for their commitment to strengthening the OACPS-EU partnership.
“The OACPS-EU partnership remains one of the most significant multilateral alliances in global diplomacy. Both Europe and Africa view the world through different lenses, yet we share a common interest in developing our economies and improving living standards for our people,” said the Minister.
Looking ahead, Senator Shakantu said attention now shifts to the forthcoming Council of Ministers meeting, where resolutions and outcomes from the Parliamentary Assembly will be further discussed to ensure actionable strategies are implemented.
The successful hosting of the Assembly has further positioned Eswatini as a trusted convener of international dialogue and diplomacy, while showcasing the Kingdom’s growing influence in advancing cooperation between Africa and Europe.
