Military Watch Magazinereveal that during the “Swift Eagle 2026″ joint training exercises, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Air Force deployed its Z-20K medium utility helicopter.
The Z-20K features a 16-seat cabin and is equipped with specialized searchlights and stabilized electro-optical sensors, making it highly effective for tactical air assaults in complex urban settings.

The exercises, which focused on realistic counter-terrorism scenarios like reconnaissance and securing positions, saw both Chinese and Belarusian troops fast-roping and conducting rappelling operations from the aircraft.

At least six twin-engine J-16 fighter jets traveled more than 6,000 kilometers from China to Egypt in a flight that lasted nearly nine hours.

To support this lengthy transcontinental flight, a YY-20A aerial refuelling tanker provided fuel to the fighter jets in mid-air.
The refuelling aircraft did not just supply fuel; it also functioned as an airborne command center, coordinating the aircraft as they crossed two different continents and four nations.
The presence of the heavyweight J-16s in Egypt represents a major shift from previous years.

Military Watch Magazine reported that this new deployment “represents an important step up from last year’s China-Egypt exercise,” making it “by far the most capable fighter type China has ever deployed for exercises abroad”.
A notable feature of the J-16 is its massive and highly advanced radar system, which is roughly four times larger than those found on Egypt’s existing fleet of F-16s, MiG-29s, and Rafales. This gives local pilots rare exposure to cutting-edge technology.
According to Chinese military officials, the operation was a major test of their capacity for long-range deployment, rapid mobilisation and integrated operations.
These drills in Africa and Europe highlight how Chinese forces can rapidly deploy and coordinate advanced air assault equipment in regions directly adjacent to Western allies.
