Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming how culture is created, shared, and experienced. From creative production to heritage preservation, AI is reshaping cultural ecosystems across East and Southeast Asia in ways that present both significant opportunities and complex challenges.

In the Culture Sector, museums are actively experimenting with AI in collection management, visitor engagement, accessibility, and curatorial innovation. These applications open up new possibilities while also raising important questions concerning access, authority, and representation, and ethical responsibility

Theis first webinar session will explore the following questions, considering both the possibilities and the tensions involved in applying AI within museums and other collecting institutions.

    • What specific challenge or institutional need did the AI application address, and how was the solution developed?
    • How has AI changed visitor engagement, access to collection or curatorial practice — and for whom?
    • What ethical considerations have arisen around AI-generated content, automated interpretation, or the representation of cultural objects?
    • How have museums involved diverse stakeholders, including communities associated with the collection, local artists and persons with disabilities?
    • What institutional infrastructure and partnerships were required, and what lessons or recommendations could support smaller museums with limited resources?

This webinar is the first in a series of TechCul Dialogues to be held over the coming months, addressing different dimensions of the relationship between AI and culture. Launched by UNESCO in March 2026 at the5th Creativity 2030 International Forum in Beijing, the regional initiative seeks to foster dialogue, collaboration and policy innovation on AI and culture across East and Southeast Asia.
