Leaders from across Kenya’s political divide, both in the government and the opposition, have joined in mourning the death of Mwalimu Jackson Karua, the father of PLP party leader Martha Karua.
The leaders sent messages of condolence to Karua and her family on Sunday, September 27, 2026, following the death of her father.
The messages were led by leaders associated with the United Opposition, including Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi, who described the loss of a parent as a deeply painful experience.
“My dear sister Martha, I extend my heartfelt condolences to you and your entire family following the passing of your beloved father, Mwalimu Jackson Karua,” Muturi said.
Muturi wished Karua, her siblings, grandchildren and the entire Karua family strength, comfort and peace as they mourned.
He also prayed for the late Mwalimu Jackson Karua to rest in eternal peace.
Maraga’s condolences
Former Chief Justice David Maraga also sent his condolences to Karua and her family, recalling the influence her father had on her life.
Maraga said Karua had often spoken about her father as one of her role models and a teacher who instilled in her values of honesty, respect and hard work.
“Kenya has seen those values in her courage and integrity throughout her public life,” Maraga said.
He also sent his condolences to Karua’s mother, Mama Josephine Wanjiru, and the entire family.
Itumbi mourns Karua’s dad
Digital strategist Dennis Itumbi also mourned the death, addressing Karua as “Mum” in his message of condolence.
“Dad leaves a strong legacy and a daughter who has a whole chapter in the book called Kenya,” Itumbi said.
He prayed for Karua to receive strength, peace and comfort during the difficult period before concluding his message with a farewell to the late Mwalimu Jackson Karua.
Kirinyaga politician and gubernatorial hopeful Wangui Ngirici also extended her condolences to Karua and her family.
“My sincere condolences to Hon. Martha Karua and the entire family on the passing of your beloved father, Jason. May God grant you strength, comfort, and peace during this difficult time,” Ngirici said.
Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah was also among those who sent messages of condolence.
Omtatah expressed his heartfelt sympathies to Karua and her family, praying that they would find strength and comfort in the memories of the deceased and the values he imparted.
Role in shaping Karua’s character
The messages from leaders across different political formations came as Karua and her family began mourning the loss of their patriarch.
The leaders highlighted the late Mwalimu Jackson Karua’s role in shaping the values and character of his daughter, who has remained a prominent figure in Kenya’s political landscape.
The late Mwalimu Jackson Karua is survived by his family, including Martha Karua, who has served in various senior government and political positions.
