The County of Los Angeles Fire Department’s (LACoFD) urban search and rescue (USAR) team, known internationally as USA-2, returned home the evening of Monday, July 16, 2026, following an 11-day deployment to Venezuela.
The USA-2 team was reunited with family, friends and fellow personnel during a heartwarming homecoming at the LACoFD Technical Operations Section in Pacoima.
USA-2 joined counterparts from the Fairfax County Fire Department and Miami-Dade Fire and Rescue international USAR teams, USA-1, USA-10, and USA-11, as part of the U.S. Department of State’s response to provide search, rescue, and recovery assistance to the Venezuelan people, following the devastating 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes that hit Venezuela’s capital and surrounding regions on June 24, 2026.
The USAR teams were essential and instrumental partners in providing critical search and rescue efforts, ultimately performing wide-area assessments and evaluating countless buildings for safety.
The LACoFD remains inspired by the compassion and resiliency of the Venezuelan people and thankful to have been a part of this U.S. Department of State response. We stand alongside all impacted residents and communities and pray for strength as recovery efforts continue.
The Department commends the USA-1, USA-2, USA-10, and USA-11 teams for their dedication to ensuring the protection and safety of the people of Venezuela.
