    Nairobi, 17 July, 2026 / 3:34 pm (ACI Africa).

The President ofSIGNIS Africahas described theSIGNIS World Congressthat is scheduled to take place in Kigali, Rwanda, as “very significant to Africa,” saying it is a sign of the continent’s growing role in the life of the Church.

In his Thursday, July 16, interview with ACI Africa, Fr.Walter Chikwendu Ihejirika, who also serves as the Chairperson of the African Organizing Committee for the gathering, reflected on the significance of the Congress that runs from August 3-8 at Sainte Famille Hotel.

“SIGNIS World Congress is very significant to Africa. It is the first time it is being held in Africa. It is a sign that the church in Africa is coming of age.  This means that the seeds of faith sowed by the Western Missionaries have borne abundant fruits,” Fr. Walter said.

He also expressed gratitude to the organizations and individuals supporting the preparations for the Congress, particularly theEternal Word Television Network(EWTN) for its commitment to ensuring the event’s success.

“I want to express our gratitude to all those who have come to partner with us in one way or another,” Fr. Walter said.
