Maina Muturi, a long time motorsports administrator, was on Friday night elected the Kenya Motor Sports Federation (KMSF) new chairman during the federation’s directors meeting held at Kasarani Stadium.

Muturi, who is also the East African Motor Sports Club chairman, takes over from Phineas Kimathi whose term ended in November last year but held the position temporarily in order to oversee a successful hosting of the WRC Safari Rally 2023.

Kimathi who opted not to defend his seat in the elections will however continue serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the WRC Safari Rally which is a round of the Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC).

The immediate KMSF boss is also a member of the FIA World Rally Championship committee and will also continue to serve as the KMSF Director, representing Rally Sports Club.

The new KMSF boss is not new in the world of motorsports as he is currently the chairman of the East Africa Motorsports Club and has in the past served as chairman of KMSF in 2007/08.

Muturi’s first task will be to improve the number of entries in the local circuit, a challenge he embraced gladly in his acceptance speech.

“There is a lot of work to be done especially on the KNRC where we need to increase the number of participants. We will sit down as a federation and map on new strategies.”

The KMSF directors also elected new chairpersons of various motorsports commissions to enhance division of labour and help the chairman to concentrate on policy matters.

Raju Chaggar was elected as Chairman of the Motorsports Council while Falgun Bhojak was elected to serve as a commissioner in the Rally Commission.

Others elected in various commissions include; Gurvi Bhabra who is in the Hill Climb Commission and Keith Henry who takes over the Autocross seat at the board.

Dr. David Karuri is the head of the Safety committee with Norris Ongalo representing the 4.x4 commission in the board. Peter Wanday will represent the iconic Historical Cars category in the federation.
