Thecrème de la crème of the Nigeria’s entertainment industry gathered to rejoice with award winning Nollywood actress and philanthropist, Rechael Okonkwo, popularly known as Nkoli Nwa Nsukka, when she unveiled her book, ‘Odogwu Girl: From Dreams to Reality’, at a colourful public presentation held at the Oriental Hotel, Lagos, marking a new chapter in her career beyond the screen.

The memoir chronicles Rechael’s personal journey from humble beginnings to becoming one of Nollywood’s most recognisable actresses, offering readers an honest account of the obstacles, setbacks and triumphs that shaped her path to success.

Speaking at the launch, the actress described the book as a message of hope for women and anyone striving to overcome life’s challenges.

“I feel proud of myself. I’m glad I’ve come this far, and I’m happy to have written something that will inspire, encourage and motivate women to keep believing in themselves, no matter what they are going through or where they come from. I want everyone who reads this book to leave feeling encouraged and empowered,” she said.

According to her, Odogwu Girl captures years of perseverance, resilience and unwavering faith, with the aim of inspiring young people, especially women, to believe that their circumstances do not define their future.

Known for her humanitarian initiatives and programmes that support women and young people, Rechael said the publication aligns with her long-standing commitment to empowering others through mentoring, education and personal development. She noted that many of the experiences shared in the book reflect lessons that have shaped both her career and her outreach efforts.

Okonkwo explained that readers should expect practical life lessons, personal experiences and words of encouragement drawn from her own journey.

“This book is beyond acting. It contains my experiences, my insights about life and, most importantly, encouragement. Women are emotional by nature, and when life doesn’t go as planned, many lose hope. I want this book to remind them that the future is still bright and that they can rise above every setback.”

Reflecting on what inspired her to write the book, Rechael said her own life became the story she needed to tell. She revealed that losing her father at the age of 13 and being the first child, she became responsible for helping to support five younger siblings. That experience shaped her determination to succeed despite numerous hardships.

“Life has never been easy for me, but one thing has always stood out: my decision to keep going and to thrive no matter what comes my way. My life is proof that a woman can overcome challenges, break stereotypes and still succeed.”

Beyond recounting her rise in the entertainment industry, the book explores themes of determination, purpose, self-belief and resilience, encouraging readers to remain focused despite disappointments and obstacles.

Describing Odogwu Girl as more than just a publication, the actress said she hopes it will grow into a movement that inspires women to discover their strength.

According to her, the “Odogwu spirit” represents courage, resilience and the determination to keep moving forward despite life’s challenges.

Audience at the launch including veterans in the literary and entertainment communities described the publication as another significant achievement for the actress, noting the growing number of Nigerian entertainers who are documenting their life journeys through books to inspire future generations.

The event attracted several notable personalities from the entertainment industry, including actress and filmmaker, Benita Onyiuke Ogbonna, actress Princess Chineke, popularly known as Dr. Princess, comedian Nwa Jesus, actress Dr. Matilda, actor Nickson Nwankwo, actress Nkechi Nnaji, actress Judith Nwankwo, actress Precious Ezeugo, actress Mary Tophan, actor Sochima Ezeoke, actress Chidimma Ugwu, Author and Producer Nani Boy, and content creator It’s Bobby alongside family, friends, colleagues and admirers who gathered to celebrate Rechael Okonkwo’s latest milestone.

The launch of ‘Odogwu Girl: From Dreams to Reality’ was attended by family, friends, colleagues and admirers, who congratulated the actress on expanding her legacy beyond film into literature.

The book is expected to resonate with readers seeking motivation, practical life lessons and an authentic account of how resilience, hard work and purpose can transform dreams into reality.
