The Nigerian women’s national football team, affectionately known as the “Super Falcons”, is ready to defend their crown at the 2026 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s African Cup of Nations in Morocco.

As the reigning champions and the most successful team in the competition’s history, Nigeria enters the tournament with a clear goal: to win an incredible 11th continental title.

With a record of 10 titles since the tournament’s inception in 1998, the Super Falcons have long been the benchmark for women’s football in Africa.

They qualified for this year’s competition by defeating Benin 3-1 on aggregate, proving once again that they remain a dominant force on the continent.

The team is led by head coach Justine Madugu, who has been instrumental in restoring Nigeria to the top of African football. After guiding the team to their 2024 championship victory, Madugu is known for his calm leadership and tactical intelligence. His ability to balance the squad’s immense talent has maintained Nigeria’s reputation for consistency at the highest level.

All eyes will be on team captain Rasheedat Ajibade. After being named the Player of the Tournament in 2024, the versatile forward has cemented her place as one of the best players in Africa. Ajibade is the team’s driving force, combining incredible speed, creativity and leadership. While she is the captain, the squad is also packed with world-class talent, including goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, star striker Asisat Oshoala and defenders like Michelle Alozie.

Nigeria has been drawn into Group C alongside Zambia, Egypt and Malawi.

While Zambia is considered a rising star in African football, Egypt and Malawi will be highly motivated to challenge the champions. Nigeria’s experience and depth make it the team to beat.

With a winning mentality, a deep roster of talent and a history of success that spans over two decades, the Super Falcons are once again the favourites to go deep into the tournament. As they head to Morocco, the message from the Nigerian camp is clear: they are there to defend their throne and cement their legacy as the greatest team in African women’s football history.
