Europe’s home textile imports at $8 bn; China yet to regain share

    Insights

    • Europe’s home textile imports fell to $****.** billion in the first quarter of 2026, while China remained the largest supplier with a **.** per cent market share, though still below its 2022 level.
    • India continued to strengthen its position, increasing its share to **.** per cent, reflecting Europe’s ongoing diversification of sourcing beyond China.

China**;s home textile exports to Europe slipped slightly to $*.** billion in the first quarter of this year from $*.** billion one year ago, but its market share edged up to **.** per cent from **.** per cent, reflecting a slightly smaller decline than the overall market. China**;s share remains well below **** levels, even as it continues to be Europe**;s largest home textile supplier, according to sourcing intelligence tool TexPro.

China**;s market position, however, remains below its **.** per cent share recorded in ****, when exports reached $*.** billion. Its share fell sharply to **.** per cent in **** before recovering to **.** per cent in **** and **.** per cent in ****. The latest quarterly figure suggests continued stabilisation rather than a full recovery.

Pakistan retained its position as the second-largest supplier in the first quarter of ****, although its exports declined to $***.** million from $***.** million, reducing its share from **.** per cent to *.** per cent. India remained third with exports of $***.** million, while its market share improved to *.** per cent from *.** per cent despite a slight fall in export value. Türkiye**;s shipments declined to $***.** million, with its share easing to *.** per cent, while Germany**;s exports fell more sharply to $***.** million, reducing its share to *.** per cent, as per TexPro.

The gap between China and its competitors has narrowed over the past four years. While China remained the largest supplier with a **.** per cent share in the first quarter of ****, its lead over other exporting nations is smaller than it was in ****. Pakistan has consistently maintained a market share close to ** per cent, while India has steadily strengthened its position, raising its share from *.** per cent in **** to *.** per cent in the latest quarter. This suggests that European buyers have continued to diversify sourcing across multiple Asian suppliers rather than reverting to their earlier dependence on China alone, despite China**;s recent gains in market share.
