Zimbabwe champions Scottland FC have elaborated on the importance of Sunday’s meeting with Kaizer Chiefs ahead of the 2026-2027 CAF Champions League debut.
George Munengwa, spokesperson for the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions, spoke about this weekend’s Toyota Cup assignment in Rustenburg, South Africa, while outlining their long-term objectives as they seek to grow the Zimbabwe club that is barely three years old.
Munengwa told Zimbabwe’s Chronicle newspaper that playing against Chiefs would provide Scottland FC with a perfect yardstick for the CAF Champions League debut.

“Playing Kaizer Chiefs will be a highly competitive match which is going to prepare us for the level at which we are going to be playing in Africa,” Munengwa said.
“We are happy as a club which is three years old that we are going to be playing Kaizer Chiefs in Rustenburg…
“We have a lot of things to learn from more established football clubs…we take it as a great honour to be selected to play in the Toyota Cup ahead of more established clubs,” said Munengwa.
The Scottland FC’s publicist also commented on the importance of their collaborations with Betway Premiership sides Durban City FC, Mamelodi Sundowns FC, Chiefs and AmaZulu FC, who have since loaned the Zimbabweans compatriot Emmanuel Jalai.
As part of the collaborations, Chiefs director Bobby Motaung visited the Harare-based team’s facilities recently and was impressed
“We had Bobby himself come down to assess how we are doing things. We took him to some of our facilities. He was so impressed to see us invest in infrastructure, for a club which is three years old,” he added.
Raising performance bar ahead of CAF Champions League
The Castle Lager PSL holders are aware of the need to raise their game in anticipation of the challenges of competing in the continental league whose qualifying games are scheduled to get underway in August.
In the opposite camp, the Soweto giants have just returned from pre-season camp training in Spain and will use the game against Mabviravira as the dress rehearsal for the 2026-2027 Betway Premiership debut against rookies Kruger United FC on August 1 at Mbombela Stadium.
Sunday’s game will take place at Royal Bafokeng Stadium from 3 pm Southern African Time.
