Transatlantic Reinsurance (TransRe) has promoted Abdeladim Bousselam to chief underwriting officer of TransRe Europe, with immediate effect. He will report to Louise Rose, president of TransRe’s International Division.

Bousselam joined TransRe in January 2025 as head of Middle East and Africa. He had spent the previous 12 years at Swiss Re across underwriting and portfolio management roles. The promotion comes roughly 18 months after he joined the group.

TransRe confirmed the appointment on LinkedIn, where the company noted Bousselam had made an immediate impact on its Middle East portfolio since joining.

From credit and surety to Europe CUO

At Swiss Re, Bousselam rose through a series of roles. He joined in 2012 as an associate business analyst before progressing into project management and then underwriting. In December 2015, he became vice president and senior underwriter in credit and surety reinsurance, with responsibility across France and MEA excluding Saudi Arabia.

He held that role for five years before becoming senior regional manager for Saudi Arabia and solutions lead for the Middle East in 2021. He held that post until joining TransRe.

Bousselam also completed multiple executive education programmes at IMD between 2015 and 2024. The curriculum spanned strategy execution, digital disruption and leadership development.

    Regional context behind the promotion

Bousselam’s elevation follows a period of active leadership restructuring at TransRe. In January 2026, the group promoted four executives across client relations, underwriting and portfolio management. President of global underwriting Paul McKeon said the promotions were aimed at strengthening support for front-line teams.

The Middle East reinsurance market has become more complex under the weight of ongoing geopolitical uncertainty. Reinsurers have reviewed ceded structures, portfolio aggregation and capital sensitivity as Gulf-linked exposure has drawn scrutiny across terrorism and political violence lines.

Bousselam’s credit and surety underwriting background and his regional management experience in Saudi Arabia give him direct grounding in lines shaped by those market conditions. In his new CUO role, he takes on oversight of TransRe Europe S.A., one of the group’s six principal operating subsidiaries.

TransRe is a wholly owned subsidiary of Alleghany Corporation, a Berkshire Hathaway company. It operates across more than 20 offices in 16 territories.
