When most of us sleep in on Christmas morning, Darren Genson is already up and on the road — not to a festive brunch or a snowy hike, but to a local animal shelter in Millersville, Maryland.

According to reports by IOL, every holiday since 2018, Darren has made it his tradition to spend the early hours walking dogs who aren’t lucky enough to have a home of their own.
By day, Darren works as an insurance agent. But before the sun rises and long before the typical workday begins, he is at Anne Arundel County Animal Services, leash in hand, guiding tail-wags and encouraging shy pups with gentle patience. Even on Christmas and New Year’s Day, he dedicates two hours to these animals, many of whom have never known the comfort of a loving human companion.
His journey began with his own rescue dog, Charli, a spirited pitbull with a knack for mischief. What started as a small act of kindness blossomed into a daily ritual that speaks volumes about connection, compassion and the healing power of shared moments with animals.
