    The African National Congress (ANC) will hold a special National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting from Saturday until Monday.

    The gathering is positioned as key to advancing organisational renewal and integrity, while laying the groundwork for the 2026 Local Government Elections.

    ANC Candidate Selection for 2026 Local Elections in Focus at the NEC

    At the meeting, the party will finalise guidelines for its list process, which determines how candidates are selected for municipal elections. This step is critical for ensuring the ANC is prepared and competitive when South Africans head to the polls next year.

    Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula confirmed that the NEC will also focus on broader priorities, including economic development, governance, and improving service delivery.

    “This NEC will deliberate and resolve on critical matters, finalise guidelines on the list process. This is the process of selecting candidates for local government elections and key questions of economic development,” Mbalula said.
