The African National Congress (ANC) is preparing to submit a formal report following the discovery of ballot papers connected to its Greater Johannesburg regional elective conference at a residence in Pretoria.

The December conference, which resulted in Loyiso Masuku narrowly defeating Dada Morero for the position of regional chairperson, has remained under a cloud amid ongoing disputes over its credibility.

Tensions have persisted since the gathering, with claims of bribery and vote manipulation prompting both a police investigation and scrutiny by the party’s national leadership structures.

The latest development unfolded on Sunday when police uncovered the ballot papers at a house in Pretoria. Khumbudzo Ntshaveni, the party’s convenor of deployees in Gauteng, was present at the scene during the discovery.

Ntshaveni stressed the importance of protecting the integrity of the organisation’s internal processes while declining to provide specific details.

“It’s important that we safeguard the processes of the ANC and I can’t talk about the details. The report will be submitted to the relevant structures so that they can be processed in line with the ANC’s procedures. Unfortunately, I can’t say anything more.”

Party Leadership Says It Is Too Early for Conclusions

According to Ntshaveni, the party is not yet in a position to draw conclusions about the implications of the discovery.

“The ANC has processes that are tight enough to safeguard its own processes, and the ANC is an organisation that continually builds on any weaknesses that may arise and we have remedies for any weaknesses that may arise. There is recourse. The ANC will have to process and discuss the way forward.”

The party’s next steps will depend on the outcome of internal deliberations and the findings of the ongoing investigations, as the ruling party seeks to bring clarity to a conference that continues to generate controversy.
