A new wave of job cuts has hit the global technology industry, with software giant Microsoft becoming the latest firm to announce layoffs.The Microsoft job cuts will reportedly impact approximately 6 000 people, or 3% of the company’s global workforce. Apple CEO Tim Cook US President Donald Trump said he’s asked Apple CEO Tim Cook to stop building plants in India, taking aim at the iPhone maker’s plans to diversify its manufacturing beyond China. “I had a little problem with Tim Cook yesterday,” Trump said of his conversation with the Apple boss in Qatar, where he’s on a state visit. “He is building all over India. Retailer Spar Group has launched an MVNO offering that includes 5G data services and will piggyback off MTN’s network infrastructure, according to a statement. Customers can purchase Spar Mobile Sim cards at any Spar, Tops, Spar Express or SaveMor store, it said, and customers will get “free data” every time they shop, according to Blake Raubenheimer, the group’s omnichannel executive. Each Spar Mobile Sim card comes pre-loaded with 300MB of data and R10 airtime that does not expire unless used. The ailing South African Post Office has cost taxpayers almost R10-billion since 2014 – and it still wants more money from the public purse to keep it from going bust once and for all. TechCentral reported last week that the Post Office, which has been in business rescue – a local form of bankruptcy protection – since July 2023, will receive a R381-million subsidy from the labour department’s Ters (Temporary Employer/Employee Relief Scheme) fund to help pay salaries for the next six months.
