Cabinet has approved the appointment of Magatho Mello as MD of the State IT Agency (Sita) – the first time in more than two years that the organisation has a leader not in the role on an acting basis. “The position has remained vacant since 2023 and has been filled in an acting capacity until now. New chief executives have been appointed for the State IT Agency (SITA) and Film and Publication Board (FPB), the communications ministry announced today.The new appointments are Magatho Mello, who takes on the role of managing director (MD) at SITA, while Nketheleni Norman Gidi will head up the FPB as its CEO. MTN South Africa will increase prices for its consumer contract customers from February 2026, pushing up monthly bills by an average of a claimed 5.4% as it contends with rising operating and capital spending costs. Consumer price inflation was 3.6% in October, meaning the average of the MTN price hikes is well above the prevailing inflation rate. Some tariff plans will see even higher increases. Cell C is bridging the digital divide with digital labs. Cell C has handed over two new digital labs to Kagisho Combined School in the Free State and Gamagara High School in the Northern Cape, extending its programme aimed at improving digital access in underserved communities. Eskom has formally created a new renewable energy subsidiary, Eskom Green, as part of its unbundling process – a move aimed at accelerating the utility’s expansion into South Africa’s fast-expanding clean energy sector. Government hopes to complete the unbundling by 2030.
