Capitec’s latest travel offering unlocks 24 airport lounge visits a year for qualifying credit card holders, split evenly between domestic and international spaces.

As reported by The South African, cardholders must spend at least R1 500 on flights booked directly with an airline using their Capitec credit card to qualify. Bookings made through online travel agents or aggregators do not qualify.

The programme is managed through DragonPass. Once activated, travellers can use lounge access at hundreds of participating lounges globally. Cardholders can also share lounge visits with companions. If a customer prefers dining over relaxing in a lounge, visits can be converted into dining vouchers at selected airport restaurants.

Capitec customers who pay for flights with their credit card also receive free international travel insurance. Coverage includes medical emergencies, evacuation, and hospital costs up to R5 million. Additional benefits include one percent cashback on eligible purchases and zero currency conversion fees on international transactions.

This initiative reflects a trend in South African banking where premium travel perks are now offered to a wider range of customers. The direct-booking requirement may limit usage for those who often rely on price-comparison websites. Nevertheless, the benefit makes Capitec a strong option for travellers looking for convenience and value.
