    As the days grow shorter and the chill of winter creeps in, I find myself yearning for some final fun in the sun.

    Winter is my least favourite month. As a Joburger, I’ve recently been spending a lot of time wondering about which part of South Africa to explore before cold weather confines me to the warmth of my home.

    Allow me to share some of my considerations in making the most of these last sunny days;

    I love a good beach day, and the idea of the warm Indian Ocean is one that will always make sense to me. In fact, Durban as a whole will always make sense to me. It is a destination that has never failed to give me a warm embrace.

    As part of my sun chasing adventure, I would love to enjoy Durban’s vibrant atmosphere as I soak up in some beach bliss, play a bit of beach volleyball and indulge in local cuisine. Real foodies will tell you that it’s always the perfect time for a yummy bunny chow!

    Although I consider myself to be a nature lover, outdoor activities tend to make me quite miserable during cold weather.

    So, before we fully step into the colder months, a hike at the Magaliesberg Mountains is a must-do.

    Before Johannesburg’s freezing conditions push me into a hibernation of sorts, I intend to entertain the idea of invigorating crisp air and breathtaking views. Plus, I really do need an escape from bustling city life.

    I also cannot stop thinking about the time when, due to illness, I missed out on the opportunity to swim with seals in Plettenberg Bay.

    I do not doubt that the exhilarating experience will connect me with nature in a unique way. The bay is home to a large colony of Cape fur seals, and swimming alongside the playful creatures would fill me with utmost delight.

    I believe that watching seals up close as they interact and playfully chase one another would be worthwhile. The memories thereof would also carry me and warm my heart during the freezing winter months.
