The Democratic Alliance (DA) is calling out South Africa’s justice cluster ministers, demanding urgent answers over what it describes as the failure to tackle spiralling crime.

The opposition party insists that the Justice, Correctional Services, Police, and State Security ministers present a unified plan to rescue the criminal justice system before the end of October.

    Murders and Assassinations Spark Alarm

Democratic Alliance Justice Spokesperson Glynnis Breytenbach pointed to Wednesday’s hit on the prime suspect in the Murray murders investigation as a chilling example of lawlessness.

News24 reported that the man, who was linked to the killings of Cloete and Thomas Murray almost two years ago, was shot dead outside Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg.

“Daily assassinations, a captured police service, a prosecuting authority in disarray, and the rise of a mafia state are all the byproducts of a criminal justice system in tatters. This comes as no surprise, as the ANC has spent decades destroying the rule of law in South Africa to protect its cadres,” Breytenbach said.

    DA Pushes Deadline for Ministers

The Democratic Alliance has given the ministers until 31 October to deliver a “tangible action plan.” If not, the party says it will escalate the matter to President Cyril Ramaphosa.

“Should these ministers fail to come up with a tangible action plan by 31 October, the DA will write to the president and urge him to address these ministers’ inaction in protecting the criminal justice system,” Breytenbach added.
