The McClure-Rabb Idlewild Foundation is inviting the public to attend the 2nd Annual Divine Nine in the Wild Weekend, set for Friday, July 31-Aug. 1 in Idlewild.
The event aims to celebrate African-American heritage and support community revitalization and youth education scholarships in one of Michigan’s most historic African-American destinations.
More than just an entertainment weekend, Divine Nine in the Wild celebrates the rich legacy of Black excellence while contributing to the revitalization of a treasured historic Black resort community. Half of the proceeds from the weekend will support the Foundation’s community revitalization efforts and youth education scholarship initiatives.
The weekend starts on July 31, at 7 p.m. with the Divine Nine Comedy Explosion. This event will take place at the Mid Michigan Event Center and will feature nationally recognized comedians, music by Kappa Alpha Psi’s own DJ Base, networking and laughter.
The celebration continues on Aug. 1, beginning at 1 p.m. at Williams Island Beach. This 2nd Annual Divine Nine in the Wild Beach Event will include live entertainment, boat rides, museum tours, food vendors, shopping, music, beach activities and fellowship in the heart of Idlewild.
Monet McClure, Founder of the McClure-Rabb Idlewild Foundation, emphasized the historical significance of the location and the event’s purpose.
“Idlewild was built as a place where African-Americans could gather, celebrate and create opportunity. Through Divine Nine in the Wild, we’re bringing that spirit back while creating new memories and investing in the future of our youth,” McClure said.
The McClure-Rabb Idlewild Foundation has made significant contributions to Idlewild. The foundation has transformed portions of the community through beautification projects, restored public spaces and created free educational experiences for hundreds of youth through its annual Education in the Wild program.
