After spending close to ten years plying his trade outside Uganda, experienced attacker Farouk Miya appears to be edging closer to a sensational return to Vipers SC, the club where his professional career first took off.
Miya is currently training with the Venoms at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, as preparations for the 2026/27 campaign gather momentum under newly appointed French head coach Denis Lavagne.
While Vipers are yet to officially announce any agreement with the player, Miya’s presence in the club’s preseason camp has fueled speculation that a reunion could soon be on the cards.
Homecoming after ten years
Should the move materialize, it would mark Miya’s first appearance in the Uganda Premier League since leaving Vipers in 2016 following an outstanding spell that established him as one of the country’s brightest young talents.
His performances at Kitende earned him a move to Belgian giants Standard Liège, making him one of Uganda’s most high-profile exports at the time.
Although he found opportunities limited in Belgium, Miya embarked on an extensive European journey, featuring for several clubs across different leagues.
His career has seen him represent Belgian side Royal Excel Mouscron on loan before moving to Sabail FK in Azerbaijan, as well as Croatian side Gorica FC. He later had spells in Turkey with Konyaspor and Çaykur Rizespor before continuing his career in Greece.
The experienced attacker has built a wealth of experience across multiple football cultures, something that could prove invaluable to a Vipers side preparing for another demanding domestic campaign.
National team mainstay
Beyond club football, Miya has enjoyed an illustrious international career with the Uganda Cranes.
He burst onto the national scene at a young age and quickly became one of Uganda’s most influential attacking players thanks to his creativity, versatility, and eye for goal.
Miya played a key role in helping Uganda qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, ending the country’s 39-year wait for an AFCON appearance. He also featured prominently during the 2019 AFCON finals in Egypt, where Uganda reached the Round of 16.
Over the years, he has accumulated more than 70 senior international appearances and scored numerous important goals for the Cranes, captaining the side on several occasions.

The tournament, which will be jointly hosted by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, represents one of the biggest moments in East African football history, and Miya is reportedly determined to be part of the Cranes squad on home soil.
For Denis Lavagne, adding a player of Miya’s pedigree would provide valuable experience to a squad already undergoing significant rebuilding ahead of the new season.
The French tactician has repeatedly emphasized his desire to build a competitive side capable of challenging for domestic honours, and Miya’s versatility across the attacking line could offer an added dimension to the Venoms’ forward options.
Although no official announcement has been made, Miya’s continued involvement in Vipers’ preseason sessions suggests discussions are progressing positively.
If completed, the transfer would not only reunite one of Uganda’s most accomplished footballers with his boyhood club but also hand Vipers one of the marquee signings of the 2026/27 transfer window as the former fan favourite looks to write a new chapter where it all began.
