The Democratic Alliance (DA) has officially named Hannif Hoosen as its mayoral candidate for the eThekwini metro in KwaZulu-Natal.

The former member of parliament, Hoosen is bringing a wealth of political experience to the city’s top post, which the DA says is central to its election strategy ahead of the upcoming local government elections.

Service Delivery Takes Center Stage in Hannif Hoosen’s Campaign

Addressing hundreds of supporters in Chatsworth, Hoosen promised to prioritize service delivery across Durban, vowing equality and accessibility for all residents.

“When I’m elected your mayor, it will not matter where you live, it will not matter what you look like, and it will not matter how you speak – we will fight for the residents of the city to ensure that they have decent facilities, decent services, street lights that work, and no potholes in the city of Durban,” he said.

Hoosen also highlighted the need to rejuvenate the city’s tourism sector. “Hotels along our beaches were packed, and tourists took to our streets.

“Today people are swimming in sewage, and the tourists have disappeared – we can change that,” he told the crowd. The DA expressed confidence in Hoosen’s leadership, emphasizing his extensive record in public service as a reason for their optimism.
