African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula has made it clear that he will not engage with North West businessman Brown Mogotsi, who allegedly has links to Senzo Mchunu and has been named in corruption-related testimony before the Madlanga Commission.

Mbalula was addressing the media during the ANC’s special National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at the Birchwood Hotel in Ekurhuleni on Sunday when he confirmed that Mogotsi had sent him a personal message.

Mbalula: ‘He’s not a member of the ANC’

According to Mbalula, Mogotsi’s ANC membership has expired, and he has no official standing in the party.

“He even sent me a message. I don’t know where he got my number, but I don’t care. I won’t respond to him. He’s not a member of the ANC,” Mbalula said.

He added that he had verified Mogotsi’s status in the party’s membership records. “It took me time to go through the records. I went to the branch and even the province — he’s not a member. He’s just moving up and down, perambulating among leaders in his proximity,” he said.

    Ezulwini Investments Debt Under Review

Meanwhile, the ANC’s Treasurer General, Gwen Ramokgopa, is expected to address the party’s position on the Ezulwini Investments matter after a letter circulated on social media claiming the ANC still owes the KwaZulu-Natal marketing firm R85 million from the 2019 election campaign.

The ANC and Ezulwini previously reached an out-of-court settlement in 2023. Party spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri reiterated that the ANC remains transparent about its financial challenges.

“We are not one of those organisations with hidden stashes of money coming from elsewhere, including from abroad,” Bhengu-Motsiri said.
“On the Ezulwini matter, as you know, we have always briefed the media when developments occurred. The Treasurer General will provide a formal response during the course of the day,” she added.

Despite its financial strain, Bhengu-Motsiri insisted that “there is no chance that the ANC is going to fold.”
