    The day’s track and field programme in Swakopmund ended controversially on Wednesday. Although De Villiers Lamprecht crossed the line marginally behind the winner of the boys 800m, he was pushed and elbowed for extended periods in the last 50 metres.  

    A lengthy inquiry into the result ensued, but Lamprecht and Andrew van Wyk, who crossed the line in third, were not upgraded and the Zimbabwean athlete who crossed the line first, was deemed the gold medallist.

    These were two of the 12 medals won by athletics, two by judo and one from Special Olympics (athletics) 100m sprinter Theo Barnes. . 

    Key results for the day at the Games are:

    ATHLETICS (FINALS)

    Girls 400m: Davida Strong won the GOLD medal by 1.33sec with a time of 55.74

    Girls 3000m: Anoxolo Mcetywa won GOLD in 9min 56.34sec, nearly 20 seconds ahead of the second placed finished. Megan Roome earned BRONZE in 10:24.99

    Girls 400m: Karla Bouwer won the GOLD

    Girls high jump: Michaela Spocter won GOLD with a leap of 1.70m 

    Girls discus: Jo-Ane Lambrecht won the GOLD medal

    Boys 110m H: Enrique Bosch won the GOLD medal

    Boys 400m H: Francois Boschoff won GOLD 

    Boys 800m: De Villiers Lamprecht crossed the line marginally behind in second place but was looking to be promoted to first after being pushed late in the race as he was trying to overtake the leader. Andrew van Wyk finished third but was looking to be promoted to second with the referee looing at the incident. The inquired overruled the objection and Lamprecht took SILVER and Van Wyk BRONZE

    Boys shot put: Dewald Bezuidenhout won GOLD with 17.02m and Erik Senekal won the SILVER with 15.54m

    FOOTBALL

    Team SA (boys) beat Eswatini 2-0

    Team SA (girls) beat Angola 5-2

    JUDO

    Girls -44kg: Liyema Tsotsa won the BRONZE medal

    Girls -52kg: Emma Kemp lost her bronze medal match

    Boys -81kg: Max McKenzie won the BRONZE medal

    SPECIAL OLYMPICS (Athletics)

    Boys 100m: Theo Barnes won the SILVER medal with a time of 12.17

    TENNIS

    Girls singles, semi-finals: Jessica Schiltz beat Abogayel Vosloo 7-5, 4-6, 7-5

    Boys singles, semi-finals: Dehan van Deventer beat Daniel Domingos (Angola) 6-2, 5-3 (ret)

    Boys doubles, semi-finals: Simphiwe Ngwenya and Bogdan Mandic beat Zim 6-3 6-3

    Girls doubles, semi-finals: Abigayel Vosloo and Milla Hartig lost to Zim 7-6 (7) 2-6 7-10

    Mixed doubles, semi-finals: Simphiwe Ngwenya and Milla Hartig beat Zimbabwe 4-6 6-4 10-8

    Mixed doubles, semi-finals: Dehan van Deventer and Abigayel Vosloo lost to Zimbabwe 4-6 0-6

    VOLLEYBALL

    Team SA (U18 boys) beat Botswana 3-0 (21-19, 25-20, 21-14)

    Team SA (U18 girls) beat Namibia 3-1 (17-25, 25-16, 25-5, 25-8)
