Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton has acquired a 21-lawyer team of intellectual property lawyers from Ropes & Gray that includes five partners.

One of the lawyers making the move is Steven Pepe, chair of Ropes & Gray’s IP practice group, report Bloomberg Law, Law.com and a Sept. 18 press release.

The group “joins and expands” Sheppard Mullin offices in New York, Silicon Valley, Seoul and Washington, D.C., according to the press release.

Pepe told Law.com that Sheppard Mullin’s clients in South Korea and Asia provided “a good alignment for us.” And the law firm “has one of the strongest reputations in IP litigation and IP generally,” he said.

In a statement published by Bloomberg and Law.com, Ropes & Gray said it “remains fully committed to the ongoing growth of our IP transactions practice, as well as strengthening our presence in key markets, including the West Coast. We are grateful for the contributions of our former colleagues and look forward to opportunities for continued collaboration with them.”
