EFF leader Julius Malema has intensified his criticism of Operation Dudula, branding the anti-migrant movement a group of “thugs” and calling for urgent police intervention.
Taking to X on Wednesday, Malema insisted the Political Killings Task Team should be deployed against the controversial organisation.

“Operation Dudula is a group of thugs and must be subjected to the Political Killings Task Team. Period!” he posted.
His remarks came shortly after returning from Nigeria, where he addressed the annual law conference and reiterated his vision for pan-African unity and open borders.
Operation Dudula’s Controversial Actions Under Scrutiny
Launched as a grassroots movement, the group claims to target illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and the employment of undocumented foreign nationals. However, the group’s methods have often sparked public outrage.

Its members have been seen on camera blocking clinics, storming businesses, and harassing immigrants in communities across South Africa, whether or not they are in the country legally.
In July, Gauteng Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko condemned Dudula activists after reports emerged of patients being turned away from state hospitals. Activists demanded IDs before allowing access to medical care, preventing foreign nationals from receiving treatment.

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) has repeatedly criticised Operation Dudula’s actions, warning that such behaviour could backfire on South Africans abroad.

The commission stressed that if the group’s hostility towards foreign nationals continues, other countries may retaliate by targeting South African citizens living and working outside the country.
