Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has cautioned African leaders against yielding to the influence of United States President Donald Trump, saying such actions undermine the sovereignty of African states.

Speaking at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) annual conference in Enugu on Sunday, Malema emphasised that Africa risks losing its independence and collective power if it remains divided.

The NBA, Africa’s largest professional body of lawyers, represents more than 120,000 members in Nigeria and abroad. Its annual general conference brings together policymakers, judges, academics, and international guests to discuss pressing legal and political issues.

Malema used the platform to push for continental unity and economic independence. He argued that Africa must embrace a common political and economic identity to strengthen its global position.

“We demand one Africa, we demand a borderless Africa, we demand an Africa with one president, with one currency, with one military command, with one parliament because we know the currency of Africa will be much more stronger than the American currency,” he told delegates.

Malema’s vision of a unified Africa, he said, would protect the continent from external interference and create an equal footing with global powers.

The EFF leader criticised Washington’s attempts to influence African domestic affairs, including South Africa’s policies on race and foreign relations, through the use of trade tariffs.

“Trump had no business influencing Africa’s policy position,” Malema declared. “We must refuse to be subjects of Trump. We must stand together as the world changes and show them that Africa is one and that Africa is equal to all nations, to China, to Russia, to America.”

Malema’s remarks sparked conversations about Africa’s future on the global stage, with his message of resistance and unity resonating strongly among delegates.
