Kaizer Chiefs are backing new head coach despite tough season.

Chiefs Marketing and Commercial Director Jessica Motaung has reaffirmed the club’s support for its technical team, emphasizing that management remains committed to the long-term vision despite a tough debut season under head coach Nasreddine Nabi.

Nabi, who joined from Botola Pro giants ASFAR in the off-season, took charge of a Chiefs squad that finished a disappointing 10th in the previous Premier Soccer League campaign—marking the club’s worst-ever league finish. With 28 matches played under his leadership, Chiefs have won 10, drawn five, and suffered 13 defeats across all competitions. Currently, they sit in eighth place in the league but remain in contention for silverware through the Nedbank Cup semi-finals.

Motaung stresses patience and support for the team

Addressing concerns about the team’s performance, Motaung made it clear that management fully backs the coaching staff, including assistants Khalil Ben Youssef, Cedric Kaze, Ilyez Mzoughi, and Majdi Safi.

“I really don’t want to get into that right now. All I can say is we have a technical team and a coach; they’re doing the work, they have the support to do the work, and it’s for them to do the work,” Motaung stated, as quoted by iDiski Times.

She acknowledged the challenges but insisted that Chiefs were never expecting overnight success. “We knew this was a long-term project. We didn’t come in thinking we’d get quick results, but certainly, lessons have been learned. The analysis is in place, and the football team is working closely with the coaches to address key areas.”

Motaung also urged fans to continue rallying behind the team. “It’s important to learn from these challenges. I encourage our supporters to back the team and help us push through to the finish line this season. There is a need for consistency, and work is happening behind the scenes to ensure improvement.”

Nabi and Chiefs confident in the project

Despite the struggles, Nabi remains optimistic, stating that he and management are aligned on the necessary steps to take the project forward into the 2025/2026 campaign.

Chiefs will aim to bounce back after the FIFA International Break when they take on Golden Arrows this Saturday at Moses Mabhida Stadium. With the season nearing its conclusion, all eyes are on whether the Amakhosi can turn things around and finish on a high note.
