Kaizer Chiefs defender Rushwin Dortley has been ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery.

The former Cape Town Spurs enforcer managed 18 league appearances in his debut season at AmaKhosi, during which he quickly became a fan favourite with his decisive thinking and brute strength, simultaneously earning him his first cap with Bafana Bafana on September 6.

Given Msimango has risen to the occasion in Dortley’s absence, conceding one goal (in two games) since taking over the starting role.

A return date is yet to be confirmed, but the 22-year-old will likely be out for at least six months, jeopardising his AFCON dreams.

    Du Preez gets new contract

Kaizer Chiefs have signed striker Ashley Du Preez to a new two-year deal, whilst midfielder George Matlou continues to fight for his spot next season – AmaKhosi are yet to offer him an extension.

it clear to him [Matlou] that the games he will play between now and the of the season determine his future,” a source revealed.

“They have told him that they understand that the injury has disrupted his progress at the club and the technical team has given him the chance to play then it’s now up to him to save his own career.”

The former Moroka Swallows man is reportedly determined to earn his spot in Soweto as the club continues to weigh up his position at the club. Matlou, who has three months left on his contract, can sign a pre-contract elsewhere, but whether he will is another story.

Should Kaizer Chiefs sign another defender in the offseason?
