The long-awaited Madlanga Commission of Inquiry into alleged corruption within the police force will officially begin on 17 September. The announcement was made on Friday, confirming that proceedings will take place at the Brigitte Mabandla Justice College in Pretoria.
President Cyril Ramaphosa established the commission in July, following explosive allegations of corruption and collusion within the criminal justice system made by KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

Procurement Delays Raise Serious Questions
The commission was initially scheduled to start earlier this week but faced delays due to procurement challenges within the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development.
Following weeks of uncertainty, the department has since awarded contracts for IT equipment and ICT infrastructure services, allowing the inquiry to move forward.

Justice Minister Mamoloko Kubayi confirmed that an internal probe has been launched into two senior officials—Director General Adv. Doctor Mashabane and Deputy Director for ICT Jabulani Hlatshwayo—over suspicions that the procurement delays may have been deliberate.

Kubayi did not mince words about the gravity of the situation, suggesting that if misconduct is proven, both officials could face suspension.
“The department initiated a probe into two senior employees, Director General, Adv. Doctor Mashabane, and Deputy Director for ICT, Jabulani Hlatshwayo,” said Kubayi. “If the delays in procurement were deliberate, this internal probe could lead to their suspension.”
