Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu has reshuffled his cabinet, dismissing Education MEC Cathy Dlamini and Economic Development and Tourism MEC Makhosazane Masilela. The shake-up, announced at a press briefing in Mbombela on Tuesday, also saw the removal of Godfrey Ntombela, Head of Department for Sports, Culture and Recreation.

“This decision was made in the interest of accountability and service delivery,” said Ndlovu, unapologetically asserting his commitment to government reform. The move signals a clear shift in strategy as the province gears up for the 2026 elections.

Dismissals Tied to Accountability and Alleged Misconduct

While Premier Ndlovu did not delve into the details behind each dismissal, insiders point to serious concerns within the Department of Education. MEC Cathy Dlamini is believed to have been axed due to growing allegations of irregularities in tender processes under her leadership.

Makhosazane Masilela’s exit from the Economic Development and Tourism portfolio has been met with speculation, though no official reason has been disclosed. Ntombela’s sudden departure has further fueled questions about internal performance reviews and departmental mismanagement.

Rising political figures Lindi Masina and Jesta Sidell have been appointed to fill the vacant MEC positions. Masina will now oversee Education, while Sidell steps in to manage Economic Development and Tourism.

Both appointees are expected to drive reform and restore public confidence in their respective departments.

This high-stakes reshuffle is widely seen as Premier Ndlovu tightening his grip on provincial leadership as he positions his administration for a stronger mandate ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The political fallout, however, is only beginning, with critics and allies alike watching closely to see what comes next.
